A cognitive neuroscientist, Mehrdad Jazayeri studies the neurobiological underpinnings of mental functions such as planning, inference, and learning by analyzing brain signals in the lab and using theoretical and computational models, including artificial neural networks.

For example, a tennis player might use an estimate of distance (d) and speed (v) to estimate TTC (TTC = d/v). Mehrdad Jazayeri is an associate professor in MIT’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and an investigator at McGovern Institute. He received his BSc in electrical engineering majoring in telecommunications from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. Mehrdad Jazayeri joined the MIT faculty in January 2013 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and an Investigator in the McGovern Institute. Jazayeri, who is originally from Iran, obtained a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran.
